Railway E Tickets Cancellation - How to Go About It?

With the Indian Railways constantly trying to improve the train travel experience for passengers, now, e-ticket cancellation is hassle-free and smooth. You don’t have to wait in long queues at the railway station or pay exorbitant fees to travel agents to cancel your ticket. E-ticket cancellation can be done on the internet, from the comfort of your home.

Train Tickets Cancellation Charges

If unused reserved tickets are cancelled more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the cancellation charges are mentioned below:

  • For AC First Class/Executive Class tickets, a cancellation charge of Rs. 240 + GST is levied.
  • For AC 2 Tier and First Class tickets, a cancellation charge of Rs. 200 + GST is levied.
  • For AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/AC 3 Economy class tickets, a cancellation charge of Rs. 180 + GST is levied.
  • For Sleeper class tickets, a cancellation charge of Rs. 120 is levied.
  • For Second class tickets, a cancellation charge of Rs. 60 is levied.

Know the rules of cancellation and refunds as set by the Indian Railways:

  • E-ticket cancellation is not allowed at face-to-face railway counters. The cancellation can only be done online.
  • If an e-ticket is cancelled within 48 hours and up to 12 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train, the Indian Railways deducts 25% of the base fare + GST applicable for all AC classes. In addition, the service charges and transaction charges for booking the tickets are non-refundable.
  • If a confirmed ticket is cancelled in less than 12 hours and up to 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train, the railways deduct 50% of the base fare + GST applicable for all AC classes. In addition, the service charges and transaction charges for booking the tickets are non-refundable.
  • E-tickets cannot be cancelled after chart preparation. In such cases, you can file a TDR. For your convenience, we have eased out the process by giving you the facility of in-app TDR filing. Yes, you can file your TDR on your Paytm App and get instant refunds.
  • If the confirmed ticket is not cancelled or TDR is not filed up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure, no refund of fare shall be admissible on the tickets.
  • In case of an RAC ticket, no refund is made if the ticket is not cancelled or TDR is not filed online up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of the train.
  • For RAC/waitlisted ticket cancellations, Rs. 60/- (Per Passenger) shall be deducted apart from the service and transaction charges.
  • On tatkal ticket cancellation, No refund will be granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets.

Steps to cancel train tickets on Paytm:

  1. Go to https://tickets.paytm.com/trains.
  2. Select ‘Cancel Ticket’.
  3. Provide your PNR and Telephone number used for booking.
  4. Select the passenger you wish to cancel.
  5. Check the estimated refund.
  6. Proceed for cancellation.
