Lufthansa CityLine was established as Ostfriesische Luftaxi (OLT) in Emden in 1958, with the first flight taking off in 1959. In 1973, it received the first wholly owned aircraft and in the 1970s and 1980s, it began to operate domestic and international flight routes for Lufthansa. In 1990, it carried 1 million passengers.
