The national airline of Mongolia is MIAT Mongolian Airlines with its headquarters at Ulaanbaatar, the capital city. It provides services to 8 destinations with affordable air tickets and quality services. MIAT Mongolian Airline code is OM (IATA) and MGL (ICAO). The airline suspended its domestic flight services in July 2008 and now only serves international destinations.

MIAT Mongolian Airlines conducts all its international flights from its main hub at Chinggis Khaan International Airport near Ulaanbaatar.

Check-in Baggage - MIAT Mongolian Airline baggage policy is based on the class of travel and provides free baggage as follows:

International Flights

• For Business Class – The passengers are allowed 2 pieces of baggage with a weight limit of 32 kg and the MIAT Mongolian Airline check-in baggage size limit is set at 158 cm in total.
• For Economy Class – The passengers are allowed one baggage with a weight limit of 23 kg and the size limit is set at 158 cm in total.
• In addition, all infants travelling by Airline are entitled to check-in baggage weighing not more than 10 kg.

Interline Routes: As a special facility to its interline customers MIAT Mongolian Airlines baggage policy provides these allowances.

For the route from Ulaanbaatar – TC1 V.V, the airline allows two pieces of baggage with each bag in the weight limit of 32 kg for Business Class and two pieces of baggage with a limit of 23 kg for Economy Class.

For the route from Ulaanbaatar – Europe V.V, the airline allows single baggage with a weight limit of 32 kg for Business Class and one baggage with a weight limit of 23 kg for Economy Class.

For all flights of OM routes, the airline allows two pieces of baggage with a weight limit of 32 kg on each for Business Class and one baggage with a limit of 23 kg for Economy Class.

The baggage size for all remains at 158 cm in total.

Cabin Baggage

The MIAT Mongolian Airlines baggage weight policy for cabin bags permits two bags with a maximum weight of 10 kg for Business Class passengers and one bag with a maximum weight of 5 kg for Economy Class passenger.

The MIAT Mongolian Airlines baggage size for cabin baggage is maximum 55cm x 40 cm x 20 cm as per the baggage policy of the airline.

Airport check-in

MIAT Mongolian Airlines Check-in policy states that the passenger has to be present at the airport at least two hours and 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of the flight for smooth and easy check-in. The passengers are duly assisted by the efficient and reliable staff of the airline. The dedicated counter will be present to drop the baggage and get the boarding pass.

MIAT Airlines serves on various routes in many countries and has code sharing with a number of airlines which has helped it build a vast network. It currently has connections to Berlin, Moscow, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Beijing, Busan, Seoul and Hong Kong.

• 1 Aircraft of Boeing 737-700 with a seating capacity of 114
• 3 Aircraft of Boeing 737-800 with a seating capacity of 162(Model 1) and 174(Model 2)
• 2 Aircraft of Boeing 767-300ER with a seating capacity of 220(Model 1) and 263(Model 2) respectively

An order has been placed for a Boeing 737 MAX 8 which is expected to be delivered by 2019

The MIAT Airlines began its first operations 7 July 1956 with the help of Aeroflot, and its first flight was from Ulaanbaatar to Irkutsk. It started acquiring many aircraft in the post-communist era to increase its field of operations. It suspended its domestic flight services in 2008 and started charter services in 2009. The Airline also suffered a minor setback in the form of a mechanics’ strike in 2010, which was soon resolved.

It is now heading towards expansion and is looking at acquiring more machines to build up its international fleet.
