History of Condor Flugdienst Airlines

The Condor Flugdienst Airlines started operations on 29 March 1956 with its first flight to Israel. Its earlier name was Deutsche Flugdienst GmbH, which changed to its current name after the airline was taken over by Deutsche Flugdienst in 1961.

It became the first ever leisure airline of the world to add a Boeing 747 to its fleet in 1971. The airlines partnered with Lufthansa in the early 90s, the shares of which were taken up by Thomas Cook in 2000. The Condor Flugdienst Airlines finally became a subsidiary of the Thomas Cook Group on 4 February 2013 through a merger.
