Indian Railways to Start Issuing Waitlisted Tickets; More Special Trains To Run From May 22

The Indian Railway Board, on Wednesday, declared that Waitlisted tickets would be issued from May 22, 2020. The board also plans to run more trains at full capacity with strict guidelines provided to the passengers and leaving it to the states to decide on the protocol after arrival.

Several Shatabdi and mail express trains would likely be deployed soon, apart from the currently running Rajdhani trains. Bookings for the new passenger trains would start on the IRCTC platform from May 15, 2020.

New Traveller Guidelines From Indian Railways

There is also an indication that the Indian Railways would be running mixed services in future rather than just AC trains. This would also help passengers reach smaller towns across India.

A senior railway minister said that the waitlisted tickets would be issued as last-minute ticket cancellations have been observed. RAC tickets will not be issued, and the number of waitlisted tickets also have to be limited to the following:

  • Sleeper – 200 tickets
  • AC chair car – 100 tickets
  • 3 AC – 100 tickets
  • 2 AC – 50 tickets
  • Executive class – 20 tickets
  • 1 AC – 20 tickets
