UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) is a first-of-its-kind scheme, launched with the aim to encourage regional connectivity and improve air travel in the country, making it more convenient for the passengers.
All you need to know about the scheme:

- The UDAN Scheme is a key component of the National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP), released on June 15th, 2016.
- Under this scheme, airfares would be capped at Rs. 2,500 for half of the seats in flights travelling 476 -500 kilometres. The journey time would be around an hour for these flights.
- The inaugural flights were launched in the sectors of Shimla-Delhi, Kadapa-Hyderabad, Nanded-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Porbandar, Mumbai-Kandla. The next flight to take off would operate in the Mumbai-Nanded Sector.
- The Airport Authority of India has currently approved 27 proposals. This will see 27 served airports, 12 underserved airports and 31 unserved airports (of the total 70 airports) connected.
- As many as 22 states and two Union Territories will be connected under these 27 proposals. The seating capacity of the aircraft will range from 19 to 78, and 50 percent of the seats in every flight, with a fare cap of Rs. 2,500 per seat per hour.
- The limit of Regional Connectivity Scheme(RCS) airfare would vary between Rs. 1,420 and Rs. 3,500 for fixed-wing aircrafts. Half-an-hour rides for helicopters would cost Rs. 2,500 and trips over one hour duration will be capped at Rs. 5,000.
