Sri Lanka will be offering free visa to Indian tourists on arrival starting from August 1st 2019. The visa on arrival that was charged ₹2,400 earlier is now going to be free for those holding the Indian passport. The news was announced by the Tourism Ministry of Sri Lanka.
Apart from india, Sri Lanka has added other new countries to this scheme including China, Denmark, Philippines, Finland, England, Russia, Sweden and Norway. This has been initiated by the tourism ministry to revive tourism that had been adversely affected after the terror attacks in the country.
As per the tourism stats, there is a 7.5% decline in tourism arrivals of the country compared to this period last year. By bringing this positive change for the tourists, the country hopes to get a hold of its tourism arrivals in the next three or four months.
Tourist promotion campaigns are to be a part of the strategy to bring awareness among the potential tourists. This would also increase the off-season tourist arrivals till October. With a tourist visa to Sri Lanka, one can stay up to one month in the country.
