With Indian Railways constantly trying to improve train travel experience for passengers, train e-ticket cancellation has now become hassle-free. E-ticket cancellation is the smartest way of cancelling your IRCTC e-tickets, as it can be done online from the comfort of your home.
Here are some regulations around cancellation and refunds:
- E-ticket cancellation is not allowed at railway booking counters. The cancellation can only be done online.
- If the e-ticket is cancelled within 48 hours and up to 12 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train, Railways will deduct 25% of the base fare. Service and transaction charges for booking the e-ticket are non-refundable.
- If a confirmed e-ticket is cancelled less than 12 hours and up to 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train, Railways will deduct 50% of the base fare. Service and transaction charges for booking the e-ticket are non-refundable.
- E-tickets cannot be cancelled after chart preparation. In such cases, you can file a TDR and claim your refund.
- If the confirmed e-ticket is not cancelled or TDR is not filed up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure, there would be no refund.
- In case of an RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) ticket, refund will not be processed if the e-ticket is not cancelled or TDR is not filed online up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure.
- IRCTC cancellation charges for waiting tickets: For wait-listed e-ticket cancellation, there is no other deduction done apart from service and transaction charges.
Railway Ticket Cancellation Charges for Tatkal
- On tatkal ticket cancellation, no refund will be granted as per new rules. Exceptions are made in some cases where train is cancelled or delayed by more than 3 hours at originating station.
