In a first-of-its-kind-initiative, the Central Railways has planned to deploy all women staff for the Mumbai-Pune Special Deccan Queen train, on International Women’s Day – March 8. The train that departs from Mumbai in the evening will be run by only women staff.
The initiative is taken to promote women empowerment and the appointment of an all-women staff will help in promoting women employment in the Railways, in a major way. Apart from the ticket checking staff, women personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) will also be deployed. Woman Loco Pilot, Assistant Pilot and Guard will also be appointed on the train.
Last year on March 8, Central Railway ran a ladies’ special local train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to Panvel. The train was boarded by all women-crew consisting of a Motor Woman, Guard, Ticket Checker and Railway Protection Force (RPF).
