Wayanad — The Green Paradise

This week we bring you the second destination in Paytm’s travel series to get you on the road. Enjoy an entertaining weekend a few hours away from Bangalore.

Our Second Stop — Wayanad

Get out of the city rush and travel to the ‘green paradise’, lying nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats and located 76 kms from the coast of Kozhikode. Known for its rugged terrains and lofty ridges interspersed with dense forest, tangled jungles and deep valleys, Wayand is considered to be the biggest hill station in northeast Kerala. It’s part of the 1600 km long Western Ghats, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A once in a life-time must see destination for all nature enthusiasts.

You can enjoy the hills, mountains and valleys and also the rivers, lakes and waterfalls. It’s the perfect place for a fascinating trip full of adventure. India’s largest and Asia’s second largest earth dam — the Banasura Sagar dam — is located here and a place of immense beauty.

Lakkidi is the name given to the highest point in Wayanad offering its guest untarnished views of the lush green tropical greenery ahead. Other places to see include the Edakkal caves — prehistoric etchings — and Sulthan Bathery — a picturesque town once captured by Tipu Sultan.

For the animal lovers the Muthanga Elephant Sanctuary is the place to be and one of the best in the country. And if you would like to pick up some coffee or spices then visit Kalpetta.

Wayanad is a stone’s throw away from Bangalore. You can book a bus ride in a Volvo AC Multi-Axle through Paytm Tickets.
