The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is to invest ₹9,800 crores to upgrade the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. The new developments of the airport include an elevated Eastern Cross Taxiway and a 4th runway which is apparently the first in India.
This initiative is named the Phase 3A infrastructure expansion project. It aims to improve the passenger capacity of the airport from 60 million passengers per year to 100 million passengers per year. The airport would soon be offering world-class facilities to its customers, making the airport more efficient.
Plan An International Trip On Budget
The other enhancements of the airport include better provisions for baggage handling and technologies that support facial recognition. It also includes systems for security screening, individual carrier systems, and self baggage drop kiosks among the other new features. The airport development project is to be completed by June 2022.
The 4th runway of the Delhi International Airport would be completed by June 2022. The runway, along with the new air traffic control (ATC) tower that is to open this October, would help in reducing the air congestion. This would also help the airport handle more flights and provide better services to the passengers.
