Auli, Uttarakhand
How about skiing your way into the new year on snow capped mountains in one of the best skiing destinations in India? Auli with its skiing festivals and championships between December and February, to its numerous trekking trails is the ideal location for adventure junkies. Auli is also home to several religious sites, such as Nanda Devi and Kamat Kamet. Getting there is easy via Delhi, Badrinath or Joshimath. You can take a bus from Delhi to Rishikesh, and from Rishikesh either a private cab (9 hours) to Auli or a shared taxi to Joshimath (8 hours) and then hop onto the second longest cable car in India from Joshimath to Auli – second, being our personal fav.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Beautiful beaches, exotic resorts and serene atmosphere, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are easily amongst the best new year destinations in India. From an otherwise really calm and peaceful environment to crazy yacht parties, these islands are truly magical. It’s pristine white sand beaches, clean natural surroundings and plethora of water sports makes it the ideal destination to bring in a new year. You have direct flights from most metropolitan cities to these islands.
Kutch, Gujarat
Ever thought about what it would be like to party in a dessert? Here is your chance to experience it first hand. Kutch, with its vast expanse of white salt desert, is one of the most surreal places in India. The Rann Festival that takes place between December and February, brings life to the dessert with its authentic cultural programs, camping, hot-air ballooning and fun-filled celebrations! Considering it’s a dessert, the best way in is via road as the nearest airport/railway station is in Bhuj.
Ooty, Tamil Nadu
The lung of Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu, Ooty is the place to be if you want a break from loud music, city hustle and parties. Amidst a bunch of lakes, botanical gardens, tea factories, parks, museums and waterfalls, Ooty has a pack of resorts/hotels and fireworks at midnight to ensure a wholesome itinerary for your new year holiday. The best way is by road as this hill station is very well-connected to most South Indian cities.
Goa, Maharashtra
A no brainer destination for the ideal new year bash. Goa, from its bohemian beach parties to rocking nightclub events, magnificent beaches, high-spirited tourists, sparkling cruises, buzzing casinos, and a distinct culture makes this pocket-sized paradise everyone’s top pick. And of course the luxurious and budget-friendly hotels, umpteen food choices and cheap booze and shacks add to the list. While you can always fly, the easiest way to reach Goa is by train.
